Yarmouth RNLI, Swanage RNLI and Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 175 are all involved in a search off the coast of the Isle of Wight this afternoon (Wednesday).
HM Coastguard received a Mayday broadcast from an unknown station at around 12:05 this afternoon, which was heard on Channel 16 VHF radio.
It’s been confirmed that lifeboats from Yarmouth and Swanage have been launched, with the Coastguard Helicopter from Lee-on-Solent also scrambled.
Searches are currently being conducted between Poole Bay and The Needles.
UPDATE – HM Coastguard has confirmed that nothing untoward has been found.
The search has now been stood down, pending any further information coming to light.
