A man who was caught driving to get some medication he had forgotten whilst drunk has been handed a 20-month driving ban.
Daniel Walker, 39, of Cliff Path in Sandown, pleaded guilty to 1 count of drink driving when he appeared in front of Magistrates on Tuesday.
Prosecuting, Ann Smout told the court that on the evening of 8th October Police stopped Walker – a father of 3 – along Binstead Hill after they noticed his Ford Transit being driven questionably, hitting the kerb.
When stopped by officers, Walker was asked to conduct a roadside breath test. During the process, Walker blew 73.
He was subsequently arrested and taken to Newport Police Station where he was asked to give multiple blood samples, the lowest of which was 80.
Defending Walker, Amy Hosell said that the 39-year-old was heading back home to get his medication that he needed to take. She also added that the landscape gardener waited as long as he could before driving, believing he wasn’t too drunk at that time.
Magistrates handed Walker a 20-month driving disqualification, fined him £230 and ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £92 surcharge fee.

Defo important to stay on top off medication…
But don’t DD..
Why do drunks always try a hard luck story. It is quite simple don’t drink and drive.
They have some bottle if you ask me.
“believing he wasn’t too drunk at that time”.
Being a victim of three road traffic accidents, where all drivers had been drinking, I have zero tolerance towards those who drink/drive. They go on with their lives, yet, I’m left suffering from the injuries for life.
What is it with those who drink/drive? They always try to justify the reason for getting behind the wheel after having a drink – that it’s acceptable; it’s not.
The judicial system punishing those who drink/drive is far too lenient. If the driving disqualification were for life, maybe people would think before they get behind the wheel after a few jars.
Life is too much. A 5 year ban should be mandatory though.
Don’t feel sorry for drink drivers one bit. Perhaps he drank so much he couldn’t remember how much he’d drunk!
Seriously, these drivers are a danger to innocent road users. Take as many off the roads as possible. Now what is this chap going to do for work? He’s blown that. Serves himself right. Don’t drink or drug drive, it’s not worth it.
The Police should carry out random checks on many van and truck drivers.
Many drivers drink heavily the night before and drive the next morning.
And people who work in offices don’t!?
