A man who tragically died in a motorcycle crash on the outskirts of Shalfleet has been named as 64-year-old Graham Nightingale from Shanklin.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Graham was riding his Yamaha XVS when it was involved in a collision with a Ford Transit van around 18:43 on Saturday 21st May. Despite best efforts, the 64-year-old, of Crescent Road, Shanklin, was pronounced dead.
It’s understood Graham was returning home from a bike tour around the New Forest when the fatal collision occurred. He had travelled across the Solent from Lymington to Yarmouth.
Paying tribute to him, his family have today (Wednesday) said:
“Graham was caught in his prime, loving his life and living the dream on the golf course by the sea and riding his beloved motorbike.
“He was an amazing, loyal husband, with a constant sense of humour.
“Beloved father, stepfather and grandad AKA ‘Pappi’, he leaves behind his soulmate Heidi, children Emma and James, stepchildren Charlotte and Philip and eight grandchildren.”
Friends of Graham have described him as a very competent rider and someone who had toured most of England, Scotland and Europe over the past 20 years.
Enquiries into the exact circumstances of the collision are ongoing.

Condolences to his loving wife family and friends what a terrible thing to happen to a lovely man who was enjoying his life and his love for motorcycling
I too am an aging motorcyclist and feel sad for him and his family and friends. I do hope they release the details about this accident.. As would be a good idea to always let the public know causes of accidents on this Island, might wake a few drivers up !!!
not just drivers..riders too
Sending our deepest condolences to Heidi and all the family. My hubby was on the ride with Graham and they had all had a wonderful day out, he spoke to the police so that the family would know that he had had a lovely ride and we knew that that little bit of info would be of some comfort to them all.
Heartfelt hugs heading their way.
Thank-you. I’m Graham’s stepdaughter. Mum has taken great comfort that he had such a good day xxx
Respect, from a fellow biker.
My condolences to all his friends and family.
My condolences go out to all his family at this time after this tragic accident, but has anyone thought about what the poor van driver and his family must be going through. ??
Yes actually. My mum (graham’s wife) is deeply troubled by what the van driver is going through!
