A 35-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of raping a woman in Ventnor on Tuesday evening has been bailed by Police.
As previously reported by Island Echo, officers cordoned off a section of St Catherine’s Church graveyard on Tuesday following an accusation that a rape has occurred in broad daylight at around 17:30.
Officers held the man from Sandown in Police custody for around 24 hours but he was last night released on bail.
Hampshire Constabulary are continuing to investigate the alleged incident and the 35-year-old will return to Newport Police Station on 16th July 2019.
