Unbeaten Newport dismissed Shanklin & Godshill 2nds for just 40 runs at Westhill at the weekend to strengthen their grip on Isle of Wight Division 1, with pace bowler Louis Payne taking an incredible 5 wickets in 3 overs without conceding a single run. After losing the toss and being put in to bat, Shanklin were skittled out in the 26th over. Newport surpassed the modest Shanklin total without the loss of a single wicket. Payne clean bowled 3 Shanklin batsmen: opener Steve Priddle, Luka Moreno and captain Andrew Trotter. Robertson and Burnham were also dismissed off the bowling of Payne, both being caught by Stuart Gurney. Harry Dye (3-4) and Aaron Hartup (2-7) were also in the wickets for Newport. Ventnor 148/3 Calmore Sports 147 all out Ventnor won by 7 wickets In Southern Premier Division 1, Ventnor returned to winning ways at Steephill with a comprehensive 7-wicket victory over Calmore Sports. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Calmore were restricted to 147 runs before being bowled out with 2 overs remaining. Charlie Calloway (4-35) was the pick of the Ventnor bowlers, with Daniel Cox (3-27) taking a treble of wickets for the South Wight side. Ventnor overcame the modest Calmore total in 35 overs and 1 ball, with Sri Lankan Dineth Thimodya scoring an unbeaten 97 runs off 93 balls, including 4 6s and 7 4s. Victory leaves Ventnor 5th in the table with a points average of 13.38. Gosport Borough 2nds 155 all out Ventnor 2nds 201 all out Ventnor won by 46 runs In Hampshire Division 3 (South), Ventnor 2nds recorded their 7th victory of the season against Gosport Borough 2nds. After losing the toss and being put in to bat, Ventnor scored 201 before being all out in the 45th over. Benjamin Attrill top scored for the South Wight side with a knock of 57 before being caught lbw off the bowling of Max Martin. Gosport Borough were restricted to 155 in reply before being bowled out in the 37th over. Kayton Evans (3-18) and Archie Luc (3-28) were the pick of the bowlers for Ventnor, with Jack Powell (2-26) taking a brace of wickets for the South Wight side. Ventnor 2nds remain top of the table with a points average of 20.22.
Waterlooville 2nds 145/9 Shanklin & Godshill 122/8 Shanklin & Godshill won by 2 wickets In Hampshire Division 3 (South), Shanklin & Godshill maintained their push for promotion with a narrow 2-wicket win over Waterlooville. After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Waterlooville were restricted to 145/9 in their 45 overs. T. Quaife (4-23) returned the best bowling figures for Shanklin with Ben White (2-16) and Nathan Moore (2-33) both taking braces of wickets for the Island side. Shanklin surpassed their rain reduced target in the 33rd over with just 3 balls to spare. Shanklin’s victory leaves them 3rd in the table with a points average of 17.33.
Ryde 2nds 202/6 Fareham & Crofton 2nds 201 all out Ryde won by 4 wickets In Division 4 (South) Ryde 2nds scraped past Fareham & Crofton 2nds at Harding Shute in the 45th over of the game. After losing the toss and being put in to bat, Fareham & Crofton reached the adequate total of 201 before being bowled out in the 45th over. Liam Ringer (4-35) was the pick of the Ryde bowlers with Alex Barton (2-35) and Ian Hailes (2-46) both taking braces of wickets for the home side. Ryde surpassed the Fareham & Crofton total with just 5 balls to spare with Kensei Parker top scoring with 50 before being caught by Tucker off the bowling of Hawley. Ryde’s 2nds win leaves them 9th with a points average of 14. Ryde 1sts game against Basingstoke & North Hants was abandoned due to rain. In summary, Saturday 13th July was a very fortunate day for Isle of Wight sides, with all 4 teams vanquishing North Island opposition.
