Vectis Radio, the Newport-based community radio station has been granted a 5-year extension on its broadcasting licence by the regulatory body Ofcom.
The station, which started life in 2010 as an internet-only broadcaster, was granted its five-year FM licence starting in November 2017.
It has now been confirmed that the licence has now been renewed by Ofcom for another five years enabling Vectis Radio to continue broadcasting on FM 104.6 and supporting local businesses, community and charity organisations.
Station manager Ian Mac has said:
“This is fantastic news. In the last 5 years, we have not only continued broadcasting through the pandemic but gained some national awards as well as the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. We are going to build on those successes in the next 5 years and now we can plan for the future with renewed confidence and look forward to expanding our management team with some additional directors.”
IW High Sheriff, Kay Marriott, has added:
“It is very good news indeed, that Vectis Radio’s licence has been extended. The station can continue its a great work supporting the Isle of Wight. The confidence shown by Ofcom in Vectis Radio is an accolade to the team and all their hard work.”
