Local family GP, Dr Mouli Akundi, is standing for Nettlestone and Seaview in the forthcoming local elections.
Having lived and worked in and around Nettlestone and Seaview for the last 23 years, Dr Akundi is well known to local residents and is now seeking to represent them at County Hall. He is standing as a local Conservative candidate.
Mouli Akundi says he wants to join the local authority to improve health and social care and restore the Council’s finances so that it can better invest in local services and regeneration.
He has also been meeting with local parents to secure the future of Nettlestone Primary School. It is widely believed that the Isle of Wight Council will have another attempt at closing some Island primary schools after the May elections, and Mouli says it is unsafe to make any assumptions about which schools will or will not be included in the Council’s plans.
Together with his wife, Mouli raised his daughter on the Island and he says that today’s parents should continue to have access to good quality education in the heart of the community.
Dr Akundi said:
“I chose to make this area my home because it is a place with a strong sense of identity, community spirit, and natural beauty. Over the years, I have come to deeply value the people who live here—their resilience, kindness, and quiet pride in where they belong.
“As a local GP, I have spent my professional life listening: to worries, to frustrations, to hopes, and to moments of real difficulty. I have learned that most people do not ask for much—they want to be heard, respected, and supported when it matters most. That is exactly why I am standing to be our local representative on the Isle of Wight Council. I want to bring that same approach into decision making for our Island.”
Dr Akundi has the backing of local MP Joe Robertson, who said:
“The Council has responsibilities for public health yet it is lacking councillors with relevant expertise and experience. As a local GP, Mouli would be such an asset. Community care is in crisis which is putting huge pressure on other health and care services including St Mary’s and local GP practices. Mouli understands how all this works and could make a real difference on the Council.”
Mr Robertson went on to say:
“Like me, Mouli is willing to work cross-party for the good of the Island. He would be a voice of reason within the Council, helping to bring people together and with experience that our local authority badly needs.”
The Isle of Wight Council elections take place on Thursday 7th May, with live coverage of the results on Island Echo the following day.

Any candidate who is going to tackle the speeding problem
on the island gets my vote.
We need safer roads.
20mph is plenty it’s happening everywhere on the mainland
but not on the island.
So you think its a great idea , what about the costs that will come with such speed ,fuel ,delivering of goods and pollution. Perhaps its time you handed in your driving licence because you have no idea how to be on a road. Or what you are offering in its place.
China sounds like a place you need to move to , sounds like you will be a much happier person.
Obviously another lawbreaking Numpty.
I suggest a trip to Specsavers and you might see
the speeding problem, my guess is like many numpties
on the island YOU CHOOSE NOT TOO!
Bless!
When it comes to deliveries that’s life
deliveries happen on the mainland in 20mph areas.
Deliveries take place at night when roads are empty,
also the majority of delivery vehicles in 2026 are electric.
The island have the right idea with ALL electric buses.
China is a beautiful country, don’t believe all the rubbish
you read on mainstream media.
so,, ‘ink’ is “Obviously another lawbreaking Numpty”,.. just because he disagrees with you…
That’s a very Farage/Trumpian comment for someone who claims to
be against Reform…
Perhaps you are just a secret reform voter,.. who is ashmed to publicly admit it….
Believe me I wouldn’t vote Reform if they paid me too!
Only numpties would.
Again you are so wrong on all aspects .
Seems your problem is assumption which is the cause of most mistakes on the roads , and for one i drive for a living professionally and its the assuming fools like yourself that causes most of the problems.
You are a very sad individual that has a chip on their shoulder.
“20mph is plenty”… what a joke! You drive at 20mph and I will be the one overtaking with a smile on my face.
