The Isle of Wight Army Cadets were crowned overall winners at the Royal Hampshire Cup recently.
The Royal Hampshire Cup is a military skills competition held annually by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Army Cadet Force, the latest iteration was held at Jersey
The competition tests Army Cadets on their competence within the framework of the Army Cadet Syllabus and features events such as Navigation, Command Tasks, Military Knowledge, Shooting, Archery, First Aid and Drill.
Gallipoli Company, the islands contingent of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Army Cadet Force hosted the event at Jersery Camp on the island and welcomed 5 other contingent teams from across Hampshire for the weekend event.
After a hard fought competition the islands contingent won a string of the events listed and was crowned overall winners for the year.
Commandant of Hampshire and Isle of Wight ACF, Colonel Tim Hope MBE VR was full of praise for the islands Gallipoli Company and its Cadet Team and Supporting cadet force adult volunteers stating:
“I would like to congratulate all the teams that have taken part this weekend and shown maximum effort. My particular thanks and praise goes to Major Wake and his team at Gallipoli Company on the Island for planning and hosting the event and to team of cadets in sweeping to victory this year. A lot of training and commitment goes into reaching the high standards of knowledge all the teams showed so to finish as winner’s is no small feat. Everyone should be rightly proud of what they have achieved”.
