A man aboard an 18ft launch encountered, quite literally, bags of trouble late last night (Tuesday), and ended up requiring the assistance of Cowes RNLI lifeboat.
Solent Coastguard received reports that the launch had fouled its propeller midstream in the River Medina, between the Kingston Wharf and Medina Wharf.
Cowes RNLI were tasked to launch and after hitting the water at 22:45 the lifeboat crew discovered that a part-submerged, 1 tonne builder’s bag had wrapped itself around the casualty vessel’s propeller.
The lifeboat crew cut the bag off and ensured the launch made it safely to a yacht mid-river, on which the man was staying.
Returning to station at 23:35, the lifeboat was duly washed down in the rain and prepared for the next launch.

Well done guys good work.
A fine should be imposed to the company who’s bag it was!!
Err not the company, the person that caused it to be in the river…
Sorry Martin my mistake, that’s what I meant but worded it badly! Sorry
I know a few old bags, might be one of them fell in the sea.
