Bembridge RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat launched to assist a crew member on board the Antarctic cruise ship ‘Ocean Diamond’ late last night (Thursday).
The Tamar-class lifeboat was launched at the request of Solent Coastguard at 22:50 to medivac a crew member from the Ocean Diamond, which was located in the St Helens Anchorage just to the north of the lifeboat station.
It did not take long for the volunteer crew to reach the vessel and arrange for the transfer of the casualty via the port pilot hatch. The individual was able to walk on, with assistance.
Once safely onboard, the male was taken to Portsmouth Camber and transferred to an awaiting ambulance with assistance from Portsmouth Coastguard Rescue Team.
Sea conditions were quite lumpy mid-Solent in the F5 NE breeze.
The ‘Alfred Albert Williams’ then returned to Bembridge and was recovered by 00:30.

Was it CV related? Do the crew wear full protection?
What does that matter? I’m sure they know what they are doing. They are well trained!
Silly question time, you should work for the BBC.
