Art collaborators Kochanie & Kochanie – also known as Mela and Gram Hilleard – are to present their work ‘Ghosts of a Collective Memory and ‘Frames of Time’ at Peer Studios in Ventnor, ahead of the town’s Fringe Festival. Gram’s paintings depict his memories of childhood holidays in the Isle of Wight, with emphasis on the precariously perched amusement park, Blackgang Chine. He says:
“Here in my paintings the beloved views are devoid of people and seem strangely silent as the eroded landscape has made them ‘Ghosts of a Collective Memory”.
Mela was born in Poland though her family was forcibly moved from Lviv, after WWII. She says:
“I was raised on longing, for the lost paradise, for the time which does not exist seeking refuge in the world of art. After discovering the Isle of Wight I’m now following in the footsteps of Julia Margaret Cameron, the inspiration for my new project”
The exhibition runs between 30th June – 13th July.
Goodness, when I saw the painting entitled.’ Crooked House ‘ , I assumed it was referring to No 10.
Best vote Reform to reduce the risk of a Labour or Conservative Party putting the British and earlier settled immigrants here to the back of the queue.
Strange that the artist never showed us her own works, but here playschool child certainly shows talent.
Sadly the crooked houses have increased with Ventnor and St Lawrence on the move.
Looks like the playground from South Park.
