The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team were mobilised to Thorness Bay to investigate reports of a kayak washed ashore on the beach this morning (Monday).
Coastguard officers conducted a search of the local area and soon determined the the kayak must have been at sea for sometime.
With no risk to life, officers stood down from the search and the kayak was recovered back to the Coastguard station.
Solent Coastguard tasked the team at 08:48 and the incident was brought to a close by 09:55.
Last night both The Needles CRT and Ventnor CRT were tasked to assist Police with a search for a missing person in Totland. The request was swiftly cancelled as the individual was located safe and well.
