36 teams, a number of whom had made the early morning Solent crossing, took part in one of Shanklin & Sandown Golf Club’s biggest annual events last weekend (Saturday).
The 9th hole challenge, organised by club professional Peter Hammond, is a much-enjoyed add-on to the competition, where competitors can deposit a sum of money in their pro shop account in the hope that they hit the green and par the hole.
If they do, Peter doubles their deposit. A win-win, as should a player fail to make a par the deposit sits in their pro shop account until they are ready to spend it.
The format for the competition was a team sixes stableford, with 2 scores to count on the first 6 holes, 3 to count on the next 6 holes, and all 4 to count on the last 6 holes.
The winners were Jon Banks, Adrian Mogg, Stuart Bennett and Mike Heffer from Shanklin & Sandown with an excellent 124 points, each winning Footjoy premier shoes.
Runners-up were Daniel Russell, Joe Roberts, George Creighton and Harry Rose also from Shanklin & Sandown with 115 points, each winning Ping wedges.
In 3rd place were Michael Compton, Matt Compton, Andy Warren and Neil Griffin from Shanklin & Sandown with 114 points, each winning Footjoy zip-lined sweaters.
