An Isle of Wight production company will showcase a post-show Q&A later this month where they will talk to a member of the infamous ‘Freshwater Five’.
Speaking publicly about the case for the first time in more than 10 years Jamie Green, skipper of the Galwad-y-Mor and alleged ringleader of the drug smuggle, will appear in a post-show Q&A for the Island run of the play.
The new full-production of ‘The Freshwater Five’ tells the story of 5 fishermen on the Isle of Wight (Jamie Green, Jon Beere, Zoran Dresic, Daniel Payne & Scott Birtwistle) who were sentenced to a total of 104 years for conspiracy to import £53m worth of cocaine.
Those involved have always pleaded their innocence.
‘The Freshwater Five’ is a regional project funded by Arts Council England, The Mike Howley Trust and Farnham Maltings Working Class Artists Fund.
Artistic Director Samuel Bossman, has said:
“As a proud IOWer, I was blown away by the incredible reaction to our research and development phase and performances of The Freshwater Five. Growing up here I always felt like there was a lack of outlets and pathways for young people and theatre creatives, and that audiences were not getting the benefit of new, exciting theatre.
“As a creative team we feel privileged to be able to tell important, timely island narratives – and hope that the next stage of this project continues to bring communities together as well as champion the story of the men of the Freshwater Five, their families and friends who continue to fight for justice.”

The show will be shown at the Quay Arts between 27th February – 3rd March.

That man is the face of evil. I remember him and his evil father Pete when they terrorised Ryde. Unbelievable he’s making money from this. He smuggled drugs, responsible for selling death on our streets and now he’s got a platform. Disgraceful.

I also know the Green family from when they lived in Ryde and couldn’t agree more.
Indeed anyone who knew of Green Jr was in no way surprised when he was arrested for drug smuggling. Or at least if they were, it was only because of how long it took for him to get caught.
Those reponsible for this attempt at white-washing history should be ashamed of themselves.
Yep, same when they used to show up drunk in Cowes Week. Jamie and his father threatening everyone, throwing punches and threatening setting their contacts on you. They were never shy about boasting about their drug dealing.
Green may protest his innocence but most people in Freshwater know that he was actively involved in drug running, it was a standing joke how he was never caught! I can’t believe they got funding for this farce, the money should go towards something more deserving.
What night is Jaime actually going to be there? 27th?
