Dame Donna Langley, Chairman of Universal Pictures and former resident of the Isle of Wight, has said in an interview that she wants to send Hollywood A-lister Tom Cruise into space and film him doing a spacewalk.
The out-of-this-world idea, which Cruise and movie director Doug Liman pitched to the former Islander on Zoom during the COVID pandemic, takes place on earth and then the character needs to go up to space to save the day.
It’s hoped that the Mission Impossible star will be the first civilian to spacewalk outside of the International Space Station.
The project with 60-year-old Cruise is still in the early developmental stage and it is unclear how exactly, and when, it would be brought to life.
Educated at Lake Middle and then Carisbrooke High, Langley, set off for the States some 30 years ago arriving in her early 20s with not a single contact in the movie industry, yet all these years later is now one of the most influential people in Hollywood.
Langley championed blockbuster hits such as Straight Outta Compton and Mamma Mia and has even managed to entice legendary director Steven Spielberg back to the studio where he created iconic films such as Jaws and ET.
Definitely a few local Councillors who should be applying to accompany Tom Cruise. Many already spend their days in a Wonderworld of fiction so would be a nice day out…..
Just as long as the space craft cancels the return trip owing to mechanical difficulties or staff shortage.
They could have one made by the same people who made the floating bridge.

I suggest adding the people who only take constantly and never ever give anything meaningful back to the world, only crime, poverty and misery. And put in all those who are so brainwashed they cannot ‘see’ it and still blame everyone else ‘but’ them.
The planet would be a far safer, less troubled and nicer place then should they have stayed where they belong imo.
