The Isle of Wight Ukulele Festival is returning to Newport next month (9th-11th November).
Showcasing the amazingly wide range of these versatile little instruments, organisers have lined up a fabulous range of artists from far and near. There will be the more ‘traditional’ sounds of Pete Moss and Matthew Quilliam, plus elements of classical music with Opera-lele and Danilo Vignola – an amazing ukulele instrumentalist flying in all the way from Rome.
The festival will also feature brilliant original music from Plastic Jeezus, AD Cooke, Hedge Inspectors (Krabbers and Caroline) and of course the likes of JC Grimshaw, the Dance Preachers and Jukebox Jazz.
There are still a few spaces available on the festival’s fringe stage on Saturday morning, which will be running alongside the Saturday workshop programme. Another round of workshops and a WWI commemoration event will take place on Sunday morning. New acts are invited to contact festival organisers if interested in performing.
There will also be loads of jamming on Friday led by Martyn ‘Eek’ Cooper and the Yoko Mainwaring Experience.
Workshops will cover all sorts of things, from vocal technique and harmony, flamenco instrumental ukulele, songwriting for all those budding original songsters, rock ‘n roll, plucking techniques…and even beginners hula dancing!
Quay Arts, The Bargeman’s Rest and Riverside Centre all play host to the different events taking place. The festival is supported by Red Funnel.
Weekend tickets are still available, with a limited number of day and event tickets remaining. You can find all the details at www.iowuf.com, or contact organisers by emailing [email protected].
