A student from the Isle of Wight has reached the final of a prestigious university design competition with a top prize of £1,000.
Daniel Warren, who lives on the Isle of Wight and is a student at London South Bank University, is among the 6 undergraduates shortlisted in Design Innovation in Plastics 2022 (DIP), the longest standing plastics design competition of its type for students in the UK and Ireland.
Answering the 2022 brief of Design for Healthcare, Daniel has created Cura, a new way to access and treat burns for 1st responders. He and the other 5 finalists will go to the award ceremony at Painters Hall in central London on 1st July when the results will be announced.
The competition asks students to design a product made primarily of plastics. The brief sought a product that can be used in demanding applications, but which also exploits the longevity of plastics.
Chairman of judges, Richard Brown, said:
“We had a very strong group of finalists this year all of very high quality, and who had largely taken on board feedback provided by the judges at the preliminary judging stage. Their presentations were completed to a high standard that challenged the judges to select a winner.”
