An Island secondary school has warned parents that its students should not be watching the popular Netflix documentary regarding notorious serial killer, Jeffrey Dahmer.
In an email sent to parents of all students at its school, Christ The King College in Newport has warned parents and guardians that the nature of the very popular yet divisive show isn’t suitable for the majority, if not all, of its students.
The show, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which has featured in the top 10 on Netflix’s watchlist since it was released in September, showcases the story of 1 of America’s most notorious serial killers who killed and dismembered 17 boys and men between 1978-1991.
Throughout the series, Dahmer’s horrific crimes are explored in gory detail with the show not suitable for anyone under the age of 18.

Never heard of this series, don’t have Netflix, so thanks for bringing to my attention and that of possibly thousands of others especially young people who read IE and will now also be curious. When I was a teenager the more adults tried to direct us away from ( type music, smoking, swearing, staying out late etc) the more curious and interested we became. With so much tech , mobile, tablets sharing of videos etc it is hard to control outside of home . Unfortunately it’s all to do with money and public want’s that these programmes are made. Sad world sometimes.
The series is actually very, very good. Gruelling and shocking to watch, however.
One thing to make clear is that is is not, in any way, a “documentary”. There are far too many liberties taken with the facts. It could loosely be considered a drama based on the life of Jeffrey Dahmer
Definitely not suitable for anyone of a nervous disposition.
Congratulations now they will all want to watch it to find out why.
U took the thoughts straight out my head, now its been highlighted and told not to watch, the more people wanna watch it. So much so that I’ve skipped across it a few times and now I wanna watch it!!!!
I recall the ‘Video Nasties’ of the late 70’s and into the 80’s. One in particular that carried a strict 18 certificate and I believe was banned at the time was called “The Driller Killer”. Of course, the moment you ban a movie or an explicit song, we ALL want to watch it, it’s human nature. I think I was about 14 when me and my mates watched the said movie and guess what? I haven’t turned out to be a serial killer (yet)
whenever the grown ups tried to ban me from watching or doing something as a kid, that was the thing i wanted to do more than anything else and then i went and did it if i could – why – because they said i couldn’t
It’s called the Barbra Streisand effect. Now they will all be watching. Also, maybe parents should learn to use the parental control systems in place.
It was a great series, I went to bed rather peckish & with a lazy lob on …
Surely it should be up to parents to decide what is or isn’t suitable viewing for their kids, not schools. This smacks of censorship by the back door. It’s bad enough that modern day schooling seems to consist of wierdo teachers trying to brainwash their pupils in their idiotic values, without schools determining what kids do at home.
I think some adults in senior positions within the school need to understand the power of YouTube WhatsApp and instagram in that numerous children have access to and can view extremely disturbing content far more damaging than a Netflix documentary. Perhaps planned lessons around the documentary in a classroom setting might be more educational to discuss all the topics raised.
its not even that bad
