A talented Isle of Wight rower has delivered a standout performance at a crucial national event, keeping his hopes alive of representing Great Britain on the world stage.
Louis Sheasby competed at the GB U19 trial regatta at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham on Sunday, marking the 3rd and final round of this season’s trials.
Having performed strongly in earlier rounds, Louis was determined to make an impact after a disappointing result at the same event last year ended his chances of selection.
Seeded 7th, he made an immediate statement by winning the 1900m time trial by nearly 4 seconds.
That result secured his place in the A/B semi-finals, where a top 3 finish was required to progress. Louis produced a composed and tactical race, holding off his rivals to take victory by 2 seconds while conserving energy for the final.
The A final saw a rematch of last year’s British Championships, where Louis had narrowly lost out to Quin Mosley of Durham Boat Club.
This time, Louis adjusted his strategy, staying close through the opening 500m before pushing into the lead. He then extended his advantage to secure an emphatic win by more than 7 seconds.
The victory saw him take the U19 Mx1 trials title and book his place in crew formations ahead of the U19 World Championships, set to be held in Bulgaria in August.
He also thanked his club, coach and supporters, including Leander Club, his coach George Nottidge and Wightlink, for their continued backing.
