Isle of Wight rower Louis delivered a determined performance at the British Rowing U19 Trial Regatta in Nottingham, bouncing back from a challenging start to win his C final and record one of the day’s fastest times.
Competing at the National Water Sports Centre, Louis began the day with a 1900m time trial where he was seeded 6th. A slow start, however, saw him struggle to find his pace, finishing in 18th place and missing out on a place in the A/B semi-finals.
After regrouping with his coaches, Louis focused on salvaging the day. He delivered a controlled performance in the semi-final, finishing second and booking a spot in the C final.
Lining up in lane 6 with plenty of work to do, Louis got off to a strong start and quickly joined a breakaway group of three. With 250m to go, he was neck and neck with a sculler from Windsor. Digging deep, Louis launched a powerful final push to edge across the line just one second ahead of his rival.
The effort not only secured the win in his final but also earned him the 6th fastest time of the entire day.
Louis now awaits potential selection for the closed trials and crew formations at the Redgrave Pinsent Rowing Lake in Caversham this July.
In the meantime, he turns his attention to quad racing with Hartpury College. Louis, who rows stroke in the quad, is preparing to compete at the Junior Sculling Regatta and the National Schools Regatta later this month, before heading to the prestigious Henley Royal Regatta in July.
