Isle of Wight-based writers and filmmakers are being invited to apply for 2 new commissions worth a combined £5,000, as part of a national creative project exploring nature and landscape.
The Isle of Wight National Landscape Partnership has launched the opportunity through Nature Calling, a DEFRA and Arts Council England-funded programme involving 34 National Landscapes across England.
The commissions are:
-
A £2,000 writing commission, open to all writing styles including poetry, prose, song, or plays
-
A £3,000 video, film or motion art commission, to document the writing process and create a creative response
Applicants must live on the Isle of Wight. The initiative is particularly seeking to platform new voices and perspectives, with an emphasis on writers and artists from the global majority and those new to nature writing.
Writers will be asked to explore a designated area within the Island’s National Landscape, engage with its natural and cultural features, and produce an original piece of work. A filmmaker or video artist will then document this creative process and produce their own interpretive response.
The finished pieces will be showcased online through the Isle of Wight National Landscape team, the National Landscapes Association, and the official Nature Calling website and social media.
Applications are open now via www.forms.office.com/e/jUBWqRGqSR. The deadline to apply is Saturday 25th May. The commissions will run from June to October 2025.
