The Isle of Wight has been chosen to trial a new app to support separating parents and help them secure the best possible outcomes for their children. The new app called ‘Separating Better’ will enable parents to self-manage their separation, providing emotional and practical support in a single authoritative app. It will equip parents with the emotional skills and practical information they need to put parenting arrangements in place that work in the best interests of their children. The pilot project is looking for 50 Island people to participate in using the app before its planned national rollout in March. For people who are interested in taking part in the trial and want to register or find out more, visit https://www.oneplusone.org.uk/separating-better. Once on the website landing page, users will need to click the button to download the app. Debbie Price, area director for the Isle of Wight (children and families), has said:
“We know how difficult a relationship breakdown can be and we are keen to hear from anyone on the Island who feel they may benefit from using the app as part of a free trial. “We are looking for approximately 50 separated parents to take part, whether that be both parents or just one parent from the relationship breakdown. “The app will have advice videos and information to help support you to reduce conflict and make effective co-parenting arrangements. If you are interested in taking part, please register on the website.”
Councillor Jonathan Bacon, Cabinet member for Childrens Services, adds:
“It is good that the Island has been chosen to trial the new Separating better app and offer separated parents a tool that is available 24/7 on their phone, which can be accessed at times that suit them. “I hope it will help to support families to develop healthy and productive communication and to develop better ways of dealing with conflict where it arises. By enabling improved relationships between separated parents, I hope the app will help to ensure that children’s futures are supported and avoid the negative impact that can arise from conflict.”
In addition to the app trial, Island parents can also find further support, information and details of other useful courses on the Islands family information hub website at https://familyinfohub.iow.gov.uk/oneplusone. The app trial is not suitable for those in the court system or who are victims of domestic abuse.

In the old days parents used their minds and talked to each other to work out what was best and then came to an agreement.
For example the Dad has the child 5 days a week and pays £150 to the C.S.A and the Mum has the child 2 days a week and keeps all of the child benefit payments.
Now, there is an app to make the Mum wealthier.
This is technology for us..
All bad enough, and now we have a never ending stream of recent arrivals one night stands products or those from se x industry filling our state child care homes looking for adoption.
So many now that they are so desperate to ‘house’ them that they will allow anyone to adopt .
This so called imported cheap labour is working out very very expensive for the Country and costly to society in so many ways.
nothing, apart from time apart, will ever cure the bitter back sniping, devious underhanded, spiteful, arrogant and self serving behaviour by a “wronged” partner. How many times have we seen someone purposely cut off from the kids for alleged infidelity, who then subsequently refuses to pay for the kids upkeep unless they get proper access.
having an app, won’t change thing. They already snipe at each other via every social media platform going – in the old days, it was a phone rant.
Perhaps if the parents were given a week each to look after the children then it would be fair, as it is, often the women keeps the home, gets lots in benefits, whilst the guy ends up working and paying and having to find expensive housing
Not taking sides, as often the guy at fault, but both should have the same deal, otherwise the children are ‘used’ as a weapon, as in ‘you can have them the weekend, when I go out on the pull and I don’t want them to see me in bed with another guy in the morning’ etc.
Kids SHOULD come first but rarely in selfish modern parenting do they.
That sounds good. I’d like to add that after splitting up then both parents should be sterilised to stop this problem happening again in the next relationship.
