The Isle of Wight Austins’ Car Club has celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and the 100th Anniversary of the iconic Austin 7 and Austin 12.
The club travelled to Thompson’s Garden Centre for breakfast on Wednesday 1st June with all the cars and travellers decked out in red, white and blue. The Austins then proceeded in a convoy to Quarr Abbey for a traditional picnic.
The following day (2nd June), the club gathered for a traditional afternoon tea at Albert Cottage, with the Austins making their way through East Cowes.
The club then gathered with their vintage vehicles at the New Holmwood Hotel, Egypt Esplanade, Cowes, on Tuesday 7th June, for the big event: the Anniversary Celebration Lunch. All the Austins again appeared resplendent in red, white, and blue, with their drivers dressed elegantly in 20s outfits.

This is exactly the sort of car and driving that most of the indigenous coffin dodger Islanders would want everybody to drive. Thankfully, we have all moved on……
Rather see a few of these on the road than a load of overweight toxic electric blobs…
Lovely to see cars full of character. These days it is hard to identify what make is what they all look so similar.
I have one of those Austin’s, I am certainly no coffin Dodger but love driving a 90yr old car. Gets endless smiles and waives. Also the occasional anouyed drive behind in a hurry going nowhere special. How many of today’s car’s will even make 25yrs ?
