Sky broadband customers across the Isle of Wight are without the internet this morning (Thursday) having been hit by a major technical issue overnight.
Homes and businesses using Sky’s broadband network are currently unable to access the internet or make telephone calls.
Island Echo understands that the fault initially manifested itself at around 23:14 last night.
Sky customers across South East England are affected, predominantly those in the PO (Portsmouth) and SO (Southampton) postcodes.
In a statement, Sky has said:
“You might not be able to get online or make/receive phone calls due to a problem in your local area.
“We’re working on fixing the problem and we’ll provide an update on this page once we’ve discovered what is causing the fault.
”If you have an internet call-based Sky Talk service, you also might not be able to make/receive phone calls at the moment.
“We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused”.
It has been said that it may take 24-48 hours to repair the fault.
UPDATE @ 10:00 – Sky has confirmed that engineers believe the problem has been caused by a fibre-cable break.
Repair work is underway.
UPDATE @ 11:14 – Sky’s broadband service has been restored for customers – exactly 12 hours after the connection was lost.

TalkTalk were out yesterday on the IoW for an hour or so too, with major outages in the South East and London.
Like living in the dark ages. My children are in meltdown.
Amy, when I read this article, I said to myself, “Oh, no, those poor parents having to cope with children having a meltdown as they cannot access Peppa Pig”.
I do think, growing up in the 60s & 70s life was much simpler & more relaxed.
Amy, I hope their meltdown didn’t cause you too much grief. My neighbour was in meltdown as she didn’t know what to do to ‘control’ her grandchild. Her 2-year-old grandchild thought Peppa had died!
Why bother with these foreign internet providers? We have Wightfibre, a genuine homegrown service. I tried Talktalk for a year and regretted it and have been with Wightfibre ever since. Pleasant people on the phone who speak the local lingo and really quick service when you have a problem.
Wightfibre is also affected.
It is? I’m still getting 152mb/s download (max for my line)
Yeah, as soon as my contract with Sky finishes, hello Wightfibre…
Is it the same wightfibre who couldn’t provide to my address ?
Have been with Talktalk for years and have been very pleased with them.
Did Sky go & break the Fibre cable?
Think not, well done Sky for your excellent service !
Well done.
Landline and internet still not working in iow
