Celebrities including Keith Duffy, Shane Lynch, Nicholas Pinnock and Caroline Corr joined Isle of Wight Festival organisers and partners, local and national businesses for a day of racing and entertainment on the River Medina yesterday (Thursday).
The Isle of Wight Festival and Stand Up To Cancer took over the waters of Island Harbour yesterday afternoon for their annual Dragon Boat Race. 20 teams took to the water, battling it out in an action packed fun-filled race, to be crowned victorious and raise money for the charity. This is the second time the Dragon Boat Race has taken place on the island, with national and local companies competing on the water in a series of races and enjoying a day of entertainment.
The event was sponsored by Unbranded, the festival’s food and drink partner, with over 300 people taking part to raise £60,000 for Stand Up To Cancer.
Caroline Giddings, Commercial Director of The Isle of Wight Festival said:
“It was a great day and we’re so happy to have raised money for such a worthwhile charity and we’re excited to continue the partnership at this year’s festival.”
Claire Rowney, Director of Stand Up To Cancer said:
“The Dragon Boat Race has been such an incredible kick off to what we know will be an epic partnership with the Isle of Wight Festival. £60,000 is a huge contribution to cancer research and will help accelerate getting treatments to cancer patients more quickly. I’d like to say a huge thank you to the festival and all the participants for making such a powerful contribution to the fight against cancer.”
