The museum of Island History, located in Newport’s historic Guildhall, will re-open to visitors later this week.
Visitors can view some of the Island’s latest archaeological finds, find out about Garibaldi’s connection to the Isle of Wight and view the current temporary exhibition ‘A Tale of Two Shipwrecks’.
The museum, which provides an introduction to the incredible history of the Isle of Wight, will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8th October, between 10:00 and 13:00. Admission is just £1 per person.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, visitors will be required to wear face coverings while in the museum and shop area, numbers will be limited and one way systems are in place. Names and contact details of the lead member of your party will be collected for the purposes of NHS Track and Trace. A QR code will also be on site so that visitors can record their visit on mobile devices.
Interactive exhibits have been removed and covered. For families, there is a free artefact activity pack to take home.

Will there be a special, “How Covid Came to the Island” Exhibit, how about some little ferries overloaded with 2nd homeowners who got here prior to the lockdown. And of course some miniature pubs all stuffed with drunken louts.
And with a special feature of a cllr. selling alcohol from his canoe lake ice’s outlet business when lockdown was happening elsewhere.
Vote these Cllr’s out next time round, there care nothing for the Island, its people, ONLY themselves.
Let’s not forget a diorama set in a Seaview garden, of our bandwagon jumping MP having half a sausage at a friends BBQ, you could have fun animating that one, with Bobs arm moving to simulate the eating of the now oh so famous ‘alf a sausage
