An electrical fire within a garage in Freshwater damaged a gas meter and caused wider smoke damage to the property this morning (Wednesday).
An appliance from Freshwater was mobilised to the scene after a 999 call was made to Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.
The fire was quickly tackled by the homeowner and was out upon arrival of firefighters. However, the homeowner suffered smoke inhalation so was treated on scene by the fire crew before being checked over by the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
A thermal imaging camera was used to check for hotspots and utility company engineers were called in to make the scene safe.
As part of their ‘Safe and Well’ responsibilities, firefighters also fitted new smoke detectors throughout the property, as well as dropping information leaflets to neighbouring properties.

Is it just me or can I see a small flowerpot man drinking through a straw on top of the meter? 🙂
