Residents at Orchard House in Newport have been celebrating Halloween in style.
Staff held a competition asking the community to deliver their best carved pumpkin to the home, and then residents got to choose their favourite. The winner was Amy Greenwell and she won a lovely Halloween Hamper, for which she was very grateful.
On Saturday, Orchard House welcomed the fabulous singer Annie Daffern into the home to entertain the residents with her wonderful voice. She sang a nice selection of songs, with residents enjoying singing and clapping along with her.
Following Annie, a Halloween High Tea was held. The tables were decorated with black lace table cloths, helium balloons, spider web placemats and stunning orange lustre wear china from the 1950s, which rekindled some memories. Residents had made some beautiful floral centrepieces that graced the tables.
Head Chef Claire Daffern created some mouth-watering Halloween fayre for Orchard House’s residents to enjoy – which they did!
On Sunday, the Halloween Olympics were held. Each resident had a series of activities to complete such as pin the spider on the web, spooky skittles, eyeball toss, cauldron capers and witch hat hoopla. Those present also learned about some traditions dating back to the 9th century which was the precursor to today’s trick or treating. Halloween bingo was played and a Halloween quiz was held.
General Manager, Kim Fleming, said:
“We offer a wide variety of activities at our home and our activities team are always finding new ways to provide life enrichment for our residents. Residents have really enjoyed these last few days and their smiles and laughter are wonderful to see and hear.”
Resident Pauline said:
“This has been a wonderful Halloween, I have enjoyed every second. There was so much attention to detail in the planning and delivery of all the activities. My favourite thing has been the High Tea – it was delicious.”
