There’s good news for Islanders wanting to stay out later on the mainland on weekends over the Christmas holidays, thanks to a new offering from Wightlink.
Wightlink has booked a minibus service to meet the 23:59 car ferry from Portsmouth when it arrives at Fishbourne at 00:45 and take foot passengers on to Ryde Pier for free.
The minibus will transport Island revellers who will be sailing home on some of the busiest nights of the Christmas season:
- Friday 13th December
- Saturday 14th December
- Thursday 19th December
- Friday 20th December
- Saturday 21th December
- Friday 27th December
- Saturday 28th December
Head of Island Ports Martin Gulliver, has said:
“This means Islanders won’t have to worry about leaving the party early to catch the last FastCat home to Ryde.
“If you travel by FastCat to Portsmouth with an Afternoon Flyer ticket, you’ll be able to come back to Ryde via Fishbourne on our free minibus after midnight.”

Very good of Wightlink
Ho Ho Ho
Let’s hope there aren’t more than 16 people taking advantage of this, or they will find themselves stranded at Fishbourne.
Wonderful prospect jumping on a bus full of drunks. But, I suppose there will be a maximum of only sixteen squeezed in there lubricated with various amounts of drink and perhaps other pharmaceutical products, Count me in!
