The UK’s largest hearing loss charity Action on Hearing Loss is launching its new hearing screening drop-in service exclusively on the Isle of Wight on Friday 11th August at Argyll House Surgery in Ryde, between 14:00-15:30.
The service, which is a pilot scheme the charity will be running across the Island for 12 months, will give locals an opportunity to drop in and have their hearing checked by trained volunteers.
At the drop-ins locals can complete a questionnaire about their hearing health before having their hearing checked with a Siemens HearCheck screener, which will take between 5 and 10 minutes.
Hannah Crookes, Action on Hearing Loss’ Project Manager for the pilot scheme, said:
“We’re delighted to be launching this service on the Isle of Wight. This vital pilot scheme screening patients’ hearing in GP surgeries is going to form the basis of vital research on how best to improve people’s access to hearing health across the UK.
“We welcome anyone to attend on Friday 11th – our trained volunteers will show patients how simple it is to have an initial hearing check, and any patients who show that they might be having issues with their hearing will be advised to see a nurse or GP.”
Sarah Dugdale, Practice Manager at Argyll House Surgery, said:
“Argyll House is committed to our patients’ hearing health, having already incorporated hearing screenings into our Over 75s annual health check. We’re delighted to be part of this scheme and want to encourage locals and patients take this opportunity to get their hearing checked.”
