Free Food in Sandown, a community charity dedicated to providing food for individuals and families in poverty and crisis, has announced the launch of its new recipe cards.
These recipe cards are designed to offer tasty and simple meal ideas that require minimal preparation and use affordable ingredients, primarily tinned goods and cheaper fresh produce.
The new recipe cards reflect Free Food in Sandown’s commitment to helping people make nutritious meals with ease and affordability. Each card includes step-by-step instructions for creating delicious dishes made with ingredients commonly found in food banks or at low cost in supermarkets.
By focusing on straightforward, fuss-free recipes, the charity aims to empower people with limited resources to cook wholesome meals without the stress of complex cooking techniques or expensive ingredients.
Dott Perrett, Founder of Free Food in Sandown, shared her excitement about the launch:
“Since our inception in 2019, our mission has been to provide hope and sustenance to those in need. These recipe cards are a natural extension of our work, helping people make the most of the ingredients they have while enjoying nutritious, satisfying meals.
“We’re thrilled to see the impact these cards will have on our community.”
Founded in 2019 by Dott Perrett, Free Food in Sandown began its journey at Sandown Railway Station and has since established a more permanent base on Lake High Street. The charity is a beacon of hope for many on the Isle of Wight, offering vital food assistance to those facing hardship.
Operating solely on the power of donations, grants, and community support, Free Food in Sandown symbolises unity and compassion for those experiencing food poverty.
The launch of the recipe cards is sponsored by the Island Business Network (IBN), whose generous support has enabled this initiative to come to life.
A spokesperson from IBN said:
“We are honoured to sponsor this initiative. Supporting Free Food in Sandown aligns perfectly with our values of community support and fostering well-being.”
The cards will be available at the charity’s base on Lake High Street and distributed through local food banks and community centres.

Amber says:
“If you are on the Island and would like some recipe cards then let me know. I’d like to see them in family hubs, food banks, staff rooms, schools, and anywhere where people are struggling with the cost of living.”
