Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has issued advice on how to stay safe in your home with the ‘5Cs’.
Below is a list of safety tips that the service believes will help keep you and your family safe this winter.
Carbon Monoxide
Carbon monoxide (CO) is known as the silent killer. Make sure you have a working carbon monoxide alarm in the same room as any heating appliance which doesn’t run off electricity.
Maintaining gas safety checks will help to prevent CO poisoning and other risks such as gas leaks.
Cooking
The majority of house fires occur in the kitchen – 89% of these happened while the occupants were in another room. Remember barbecues and stoves are unsafe to use indoors as they put you at risk of CO poisoning.
Follow our simple steps to stay safe in the kitchen.
Candles
Planning to use more candles? Keep lit candles away from curtains and bedding and be sure to blow out when you leave the room.
Chimneys
Think about how you heat your home safely. Get your chimney swept and checked professionally if you’re planning to light an open fire.
Clothing
Think about where you dry clothes. Clothes can get caught on electric heaters and burn. Where possible, don’t leave washing machines, tumble dryers or dishwashers running overnight, or when you are out.
If you are using a portable heater to stay warm follow some simple steps to stay safe.
And another thing… smoke alarms
Working smoke alarms save lives so installation, regular testing and maintenance is vital. They give you vital time to ‘get out, stay out and call 999’ in the event of a fire. Ensure you have at least one smoke alarm on every floor of your home, ideally on the ceiling of a hallway or landing.
For smoke alarms to do their job effectively and provide an essential early warning to allow time to escape, they must be tested regularly. Test yours at least once a month to make sure they are in good working order.

And the c number 6 is commen sence but you cant teach that .
can teach spelling though
Of course when they bring in variable power charging through smart meters(which they’ll need to do as they wreck our energy security and force reliance on unreliable and intermittent green energy), it will be hideously expensive to run anything during the day due to lack of supply, so a lot of folk will switch to running washing machines and dryers overnight – this will certainly increase the risk of unattended fires and likely cause real danger to life, unlike the climate change fraud they are using to usher in net zero in the first place
