A flood warning has been issued for the Monktonmead Brook in Ryde this evening (Sunday), alongside a flood alert for the Eastern Yar.
Environment Agency (EA) officials say that the water level in the Monktonmead Brook continues to rise with a month’s worth of rainfall recorded in just 4 hours – a total of 55mm.
According to the EA, water could flow from the railway tracks into the main buildings at the Ryde St John’s train station depot. It could also flood outbuildings and plant and vehicles near Park Road.
Heavy rain may continue to affect the area over the next 5 hours with the possibility of a further 30mm tonight. Water levels aren’t expected to fall for at least another 10 hours. However, operational staff are in the Ryde area working to keep the river clear of blockages and to monitor the situation.
Meanwhile, on the Eastern Yar, water levels are high and rising with 60mm of rainfall recorded in the past 12 hours at Wroxall.
Water levels will become noticeably high at Alverstone this evening, rising near to the top of the river bank. Some out of bank flooding may also occur in fields at Langbridge. Access issues at Horringford and impacts at Sandown are also likely.
Islanders are being told to take action to protect property and consider moving vehicles away from low lying areas.

I.O.W Council and the planners, please take heed of what is happening with all this flooding. Stop allowing major building sites like W acre and P feathers going ahead or this will get so much worse.
Can you not see by taking away these vital green fields you will mess with the water table and the floods will get worse.
STOP PUTTING PROFIT IN THESE VULTURES POCKETS.
I agree they need to start looking at the problems we have otherwise the floods will get worse
If only we had a caring Government/Council, but, unfortunately, they are only looking out for themselves and their chums!
