Firefighters from Newport and Ryde are responding to assist a horse that is stuck on a stable floor this lunchtime (Monday).
1 appliance from Newport, the animal rescue unit from Newport and a Land Rover 4×4 from Ryde have been mobilised to an address on Corf Road, Porchfield.
Island Echo is told by fire control that a horse is on the stable floor and needs assistance with getting back on its feet.
The call for help was received at 12:51.
UPDATE @ 14:37 – The horse is now up and on its feet thanks to the assistance of specialist animal rescue equipment.
A vet is on the scene and fire crews are liaising.
UPDATE TUESDAY – Unfortunately, the decision was made by the vet and the owners to put the horse to sleep.
This is as bad as a false alarm, unless the horse was on fire I’m sure they’ve got better things to do
Horses generate a tremendous amount of friction while trying to get up. Add all the dry straw into the equation and you do indeed have a major fire risk. If gas bottles are stored nearby, you are looking at a major incident. Get your facts straight.

Cpt, Horse can expel huge amount of wind from there hind quarters. This is mostly methane, and, if struggling on a concrete floor with iron shoes on, can cause an explosion or fire.
Whilst third world lands allow animals to suffer, normal people here do not wish that to occur, and we should all, except if mental, be glad we have a fire service who tackle any such emergencies.

When a horse is cast ( stuck on the floor) it can be fatal for them. Have you ever tried to lift a horse that’s stuck??
