New figures from the Home Office show that Hampshire Constabulary deployed Armed Police more than 300 times in just 12 months – an increase of 57% from the year before.
According to Government data, Armed Response Officers (AFOs) were deployed a total of 302 times between March 2021 and March 2022. That is an increase of 110 on the previous year when 192 deployments were made.
It means that, on average, there were nearly an extra 10 Armed Police deployments across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight every single month.
Anecdotally, there appears to have been an increase in the number of incidents involving Armed Police on the Isle of Wight. This year alone (Jan-Jul 2022) AFOs have been deployed to incidents in Oakvale, Binstead, Argyll Street in Ryde, Player Street in Ryde, Shanklin, Sandown, Newport and Wootton.
Earlier this month Island Echo reported that Armed Police have been undergoing specialist training on how to board a moving car ferry.

The East of the Island specifically Ryde and Sandown has become a horrible place to live since this policy was put in place.
The stats don’t lie, how many murders, stabbings and serious drug crimes are now common place due to the council’s policies.
This is a nationwide policy , certain crims cannot return to their home location due to their crime , it is the Local Authority`s responsibility where they serve their prison sentence to rehouse and conceal their identity .
Kick off all the trouble makers that have either been housed here by the IOW Council or moved here on their own.
We don’t need or want scum living on this beautiful island. Drugs are a massive problem here now. Take the dealers off the island and don’t let them back. Anyone caught dealing should be removed, permanently.
Why are these civil servants faces concealed?
The sad thing is that they are actually needed on the island now. It never use to be like this a few years ago.
