Newport Town Centre is set to come alive with festive celebrations later this month as the much-anticipated Day of Christmas returns on 21st November, featuring a brand-new Christmas light display for 2026 and a packed programme of free family entertainment.
The annual event, organised by Newport and Carisbrooke Town Council, will bring live music, festive workshops, children’s activities and entertainment to locations across the town centre, culminating in the Christmas lights being switched on by Santa at 18:00.
This year’s celebrations will feature a completely new light display, promising an extra sparkle for those gathering in Newport to mark the start of the festive season.
St James’ Square will be at the heart of the entertainment, with an afternoon of performances from Huxley Magic, Medina Community Choir, Boogie Woogie Bluebirds, Origin Stories, Ryan Mac Music with a Michael Bublé tribute, Long Island Stompers and The Starlight Academy.
Elsewhere in the town centre, St Thomas’ Square will host a New Carnival Company workshop, an outdoor circus workshop and the HUSH All Day Disco.
The Parish Centre will feature an indoor disco from AJ Entertainment, alongside an immersive LED tent offering another attraction for visitors.
Families will also be able to visit Santa’s Grotto at the Salvation Army Hall, where free face painting will be available.
Although the event is free to attend, visitors to Santa’s Grotto will be invited to make a suggested donation of £1, with all money raised going towards The Salvation Army.
Organisers hope the celebrations will encourage residents and visitors from across the Isle of Wight to head into Newport, enjoy the festive atmosphere and support town centre businesses in the run-up to Christmas.
Mayor Ballington of Newport and Carisbrooke Town Council has said:
“Christmas is a time for bringing people together and celebrating everything that makes our community special. This event is for everyone, from young children experiencing the magic of Christmas to older residents who value the opportunity to meet friends and neighbours.
“Newport and Carisbrooke is a wonderfully welcoming community, and this celebration reflects the strong sense of belonging, friendship and community spirit that exists across our town.
“We look forward to seeing people of all ages come together to share in the festive season.”
The Day of Christmas takes place throughout Newport Town Centre on Saturday 21st November, with free entry to all activities and entertainment.
The Christmas lights switch-on, featuring Santa and the new 2026 display, will take place at 18:00.
