Fire crews have been called back to Holliers Hotel in Shanklin this morning (Thursday) following last night’s laundry room fire.
Appliances from Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor have been mobilised to Church Road in the Old Village alongside the Aerial Ladder Platform and Incident Command Unit from Newport.
It’s understood the fire, which was extinguished shortly before 22:00 last night, has reignited – despite crews damping down and cutting away.
Firefighters were called out at just before 21:00 yesterday to reports of a laundry room alight to the rear of Holliers. 4 breathing apparatus and 2 hose reel jets were used to tackle the incident, which was contained to an outbuilding.
With this morning’s situation now under control, several appliances have already been stood down.
Church Road – the main road between Shanklin and Ventnor – remains open with appliances situated off the carriageway.

Just goes to prove Thermal Imaging Cameras are not 100% reliable .
Too much reliance on technology and not enough on experience.
That’s not very good, getting called back to the same fire, should put it out properly, especially when the retainers get paid for each time they get called, not very good value for island council taxpayers
It’s not an exact science. Many factors can affect the situation, or do you mean that retained crews purposefully leave it so that they can get called out again to earn more money? I suspect, if you ask any retained blokes (or gals) if they would do the job for free, they would say, as I did when I was in the job, that it is not about the money, but more a sense of pride in being able to serve the community.
