The weather was calm and the lights were all so bright at the 23rd switch-on of the Long Lane Christmas Lights tonight (Saturday).
Crowds gathered for the annual tradition of the big switch-on of Terry Ramplin’s display, which features on this year’s Light up the Wight map. The lights were officially switched on by the Under Sheriff for the Isle of Wight, April Newton.
Each December, Terry and Sue Ramplin put on a display to remember to bring joy to families across the Isle of Wight. Since 2014 alone, the couple have handed over in excess of £34,000 to local good causes, with money being raised this year for IW Prostate Cancer Support Group.
Vectis Corps of Drums marching band entertained the gathered families ahead of the big countdown. The event was broadcast live by Island Echo and can be viewed below.
The lights are on every night between now and New Year with families welcome onto the driveway as normal to enjoy the plethora of lights – with a kind ask of a donation to charity. Last year the Ramplins raised a fantastic £4,500 for charity, as previously reported by Island Echo.
Long Lane is taking part in this year’s Light up the Wight, brought to you by Island Echo and sponsored by Southern Vectis.

My personal favourite is Bannock Lane in Whitwelll.
Well done to all those who are doing such a great service for the Island.
Thank you all for your hardwork, also I must say the house along Brading Nr Yarbridge
