FARMERS MARKET GIVEN GREEN LIGHT

tescorydeA proposed application to bring a farmers market to Tesco Extra in Ryde has been given the green light.

Paul Wilson, Manager for the Ryde Store, wants to bring a more community spirit to the store and use the space available for the benefit of Island residents.

Planning permission has now been granted by the Isle of Wight Councils for a farmers market with up to 25 traders, allowing them to trade for up to 20 days a year.

Meanwhile, another planning application by the store has been refused this week on the grounds that it will take shoppers away from Ryde town.

It was proposed to bring a dry cleaning, key cutting and shoe repair ‘pod’ to the store to expand the services that it offers to shoppers, however Isle of Wight Council planning officials have refused the application as it would be likely to reduce the level of footfall in nearby town centres to the detriment of their vitality and
viability.
