Red Funnel passengers are facing lengthy delays on the Southampton to East Cowes service this afternoon (Monday) due to technical issues with one of the ferries.
Those on board the Red Falcon say they left Southampton as planned but were forced to turn back and return to dock due to a problem with the vessel.
Passengers have now been sat waiting for an update for over 30 minutes and have been told that the ferry cannot be moved until the issue is resolved.
The delay is likely to have a knock-on impact on future sailings to and from the Isle of Wight today.
UPDATE @ 16:55 – Passengers and vehicles are being disembarked from the Red Falcon as the vessel is being pulled from service.

Watching on Southamptons Red Funnel webcam and wondered why Red Falcon had gone out and then reversed straight back in. Makes for great viewing on this dismal day but wonder what’s going to happen when the next ferry arrives to unload.
Time for a tunnel, as i have said before we could call it Red Tunnel
Well glad you know more than us that are stuck on the ferry with no announcements from staff or crew. They don’t seem to have a clue either
Maybe spend some of the disgusting profits on decent gear
How come the the transport On or go going to isle don’t work properly,
1. Chain ferry (what a joke)
2. Train (brand new sort off don’t work)
3. Wightlink new ferry has issues (someone forgets to plug the batteries in at night)
4. Red funnel and Hover travel (bad weather and they can’t run)
5. Roads (just as bad as before island roads to over)
Sod the fix link idea never going to happen
WHY not a proper airport like jersey
Because Jersey is a proper island!! Unlike the IOW that only pretends to be an island, but would rather be attached to the mainland
