Reports of a man entering the sea under the cover of darkness led to a sizeable emergency response during the early hours of this morning (Tuesday).
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team, Needles Coastguard Rescue Team, Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were all tasked to Ventnor seafront at just before 00:30.
It took Coastguard Rescue Officers just 8 minutes to arrive on scene, by which time the situation had been resolved.
Thankfully, the individual did not require rescuing but was passed into the care of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
The incident was immediately scaled back and Sandown Lifeboat was stood down prior to hitting the water.
If you or someone else is in difficulty on the coast or at sea, or if you spot what you think may be unexploded ordnance, then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Further safety information can be found at https://coastguardsafety.campaign.gov.uk/.

Yes I saw this gave my son something to watch as he woke up with the blue lights. There was another team there also in a silver car, after taking a look on google it was a crisis intervention car
Gave your son something to watch! Unbelievable and cruel to take someone’s distress and turn it in to entertainment. Shame on you.
It was Suicide Prevention & Intervention (SPI IOW) who were first to arrive & engaged with the male prior to other services attending
