Pupils from Priory School of Our Lady of Walsingham in East Cowes are celebrating their many and wide- ranging successes in the Isle of Wight Music, Dance and Drama Festival.
Children from across the school took part in Verse Recital, Prose Speaking, Monologue and Duo Acting competitions, giving them space and opportunity to develop performance and public speaking skills, confidence and resilience.
Emma R. and Edward S. also took part in an Original Writing competition, gaining first and second place in the 12 Years and Over category.
The youngest member of the Priory School team was Thomas W. (age 7), who took the first trophy of the Speech & Drama event with his performance of ‘Granny’s Boot’.
The children are coached and prepared by LAMDA teacher, Ms Jeni Law, who said:
“I’m so proud of the commitment of all the children who took part. For many it was their first time in the competition, and they did so well. Special thanks must go to the mums who gave up their Mother’s Day to support us.”
In total, Priory pupils entered 19 classes and achieved ten 1st places, 7 2nd places and three 3rd places to add to the 2 trophies achieved by the School Choirs in the Music section.
Principal, David EJJ Lloyd, congratulated all the pupils on their well-deserved success, saying:
“To come back with so many trophies, medals and commendations is wonderful, and is also testament to the hard work and perseverance of all our pupils, whether winners or not. Thanks must also go to Ms Law for her dedication, skill and care. Well done and thank you to everyone involved: pupils, parents, staff and supporters.”
