Wight Eagles travelled away to Hamble on a good run of form with the girls full of confidence on Saturday (19th March)
The Eagles started the game on the back-foot and not getting up to their normal pace; Hamble grew quickly into the game and soon had the Eagles fighting and defending. The Island side knew this was going be a tough game, but they found it hard to get out of their own half and difficult to string passes together.
The Eagles launched a few attacks towards half time and then grew into the game. Hamble again had chances to go a goal up, having most of the possession, but were being denied by Eloise in goal. The Eagles keeper had had two clean sheets in a row, so Hamble knew they had to be at their best to beat her.
As the Eagles approached half time, a great piece of work in the midfield by Magenta opened up play for Imogen to work the across the edge of the area for the Island girls to take the lead (0-1).
Half time: Hamble Falcons U12 0-1 Wight Eagles U12
The second half saw Wight Eagles come out stronger and not give Hamble the time to try and press the ball. The Islanders were now keeping the ball and playing with more fluidity and aggression. The ball was constantly going down the right-hand side, with Lyla causing problem for the defence: she quickly slotted the ball across for Kelsie to finish coolly only to have her effort ruled offside.
Nearing the end of the game, the pressure started to mount, and it looked like any mistake would take this win away from the Eagles. The Island side needed a final goal to seal the result. With 2 minutes remaining, the ball came through for the Eagles to score and finish a hard and tough game with a victory (0-2).

After the game, Wight Eagles Coach Dan Verstraeten said:
“That was the hardest game we have had in the league so far. We really underestimated them today, and it could have gone massively wrong, but we held our own and managed to seal the 3 points. The girls showed great character and belief in themselves and their teammates ability.”
