A man who failed to negotiate a bend and crashed his car into a ditch just 500m from his home has been handed an 18-month driving ban.
58-year-old Stefan Thomas, a self-employed removal man of Whitehouse Road near Porchfield, pleaded guilty to drink driving when he appeared before Magistrates on Tuesday.
The court heard from the Crown Prosecution Service that Thomas had been sighted getting out of his crashed car at around 21:45 on the night of 29th August. A member of the public alerted Police to the incident fearing that the driver had been drinking.
Police responded to the scene and found the driver, now known to be Stefan Thomas, around 100m further up the road.
Defending, Thomas’ solicitor said that he had driven to his mother’s house that evening as she had failed to answer his phone calls. He arrived at her home to find her collapsed in the bathroom. An ambulance was called and his mother was taken to hospital.
Due to the upsetting situation, Thomas is said to have consumed alcohol before driving home – something described as a bad decision.
Magistrates handed out a 18-month driving disqualification and fined Thomas £207, ordering him to also pay £85 costs with a £34 surcharge.

Total pack of lies. Glad he got what was long overdue. Nothing more than a irresponsible drunk driver who does not care about himself and more importantly other road users. Hope you enjoy the buses.
