Real fears that a broken down fishing boat could drift into a Solent shipping lane gave extra urgency to a Cowes RNLI lifeboat call out this morning (Saturday).
The 20ft fishing boat, with a man and woman on board, suffered engine failure south of Bramble Bank while apparently on passage from Southampton to East Cowes.
With a north-easterly Force 5/6 blowing at the time, Cowes Lifeboat raced through the choppy seas after launching at 10:50.
A member of the lifeboat’s crew was put aboard the fishing boat which was then towed to East Cowes Marina. There the fishing boat was met by Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team.
The lifeboat returned to station at 11:55.
