There will be less parking in another Isle of Wight village as more double yellow lines have been approved.
The Isle of Wight Council’s cabinet has approved parking restrictions for 2 areas in Wroxall. It follows requests on the safety asset register.
3 schemes were proposed on St Johns Road and Clarence Road in the village, but only 1 was approved without any changes.
Proposals to introduce yellow lines on a section of St Johns Road, near Worsley Drive, were given the go-ahead by councillors on Thursday night.
Upon consultation, 19 residents supported the implementation and 16 were against it. However, one scheme — which would have stopped parking opposite Cleveland Terrace — has been abandoned outright by the council.
A consultation of residents found 16 supported the restriction — which had been proposed to help the flow of traffic and enhance safety — but 26 were against the implementation.
The restrictions were rejected by the cabinet member for highways and infrastructure, Councillor Phil Jordan, who said the council had reflected on the consultation results as well as spoken to the local ward councillor who knew more about the issues.
“It will always be a balance. There are those for and against this and we will only please some and not others but we are tasked with delivering this safety scheme for our community.”

Another scheme on Manor Road, just off the High Street and Clarence Road, was partially altered and the length of yellow lines to be introduced was reduced.
In the consultation, 18 supported the proposals whereas 11 were against it. It was first proposed to stretch the parking restriction from Clarence Road, around the corner and up Manor Road but following concerns, they have been shrunk.
Instead, after cabinet approved to abandon part of the proposal, the restriction will now be enforced from just after the Inn’s car park and up Manor Road.
Can anyone at the council confirm how many speed limits they have lowered, how many new traffic restrictions they have introduced and how many miles of new double yellow lines they have painted in the last decade? It would just be interesting to see the cumulative extent of the restrictions they have been placing on motoring as each year passes – does anyone keep a record of it anywhere? Maybe a freedom of information request would tell us ?

If you see the speed that people drive through St John’s road without yellow lines, you would understand why you should not stop parking as it is the only deterrent! I love the Bus and use it more than most but until you can force people to only drive below 30 then what we will have in Wroxall and many villages is carnage! Especially when are much needed visitors and cyclists arrive.

I moved property for same reason. Before long with the tin pot housing in the affordable range off road parking will be non existent.
How very dare you Mr Pete, this is another instance of council overreach! I have rights to store my car on the highway in front of my house! And would somebody please think of the property values, I hope the council likes to get sued because they’ve just devalued my house!

You don’t have the right to park outside your house. You can’t sue the council because your house might lose value, which is unlikely. Catch the bus.
Thankfully, due to my strategic parking and that of my daughter we have managed to avoid double yellow lines being installed along Great Preston rd.
We park to help slow the speeding cars, and at great risk to ourselves as mirrors can get easily damaged, but we think more about the safety of others than a little inconvenience or expense to our good selves.
If ONLY there were more people like us, life for the many would be so much safer.

Odd how the naive see some painted ‘yellow lines’ as making a road safer, yet a large yellow car parked up along Great Preston road social houses is seen as making a highway more dangerous, yet much easier to see, and physically slows the traffic making crossing easier and less speeding too.

Maybe the owner of the yellow Vauxhall Corsa will be hoping that it will go unnoticed on the double yellow lines as her car is yellow what amazes me is the fact that when I watched her park on yellow lines outside her house the other day there was a perfectly good parking space opposite obviously she is too lazy to walk that far.

A Yellow Vauxhall Corsa HJ62ZPV is allowed to bring an whole Road to a standstill
due selfish pavement parking.
Buses etc have to come to a complete STOP due to selfish pavement parking.
I cannot believe on a busy main Road / Bus route, this is allowed too happen.
