A dispersal order for the whole of Ryde has been issued by Police after a public order incident on the Esplanade yesterday afternoon (Saturday).
Officers were called to reports of a public order incident outside the Pavilion Bar at around 17:00, which resulted in 4 people being arrested.
A 28-year-old man from Carisbrooke and a 26-year-old man from Wootton were arrested on suspicion of affray.
A 27-year-old man from Ryde was arrested on suspicion of affray and theft and a 32-year-old man from Newport was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and possession of a Class B drug.
The dispersal order gives Police officers the power to order a person to leave the area for a 48 hour period with no return. Refusal to comply with the order is a criminal offence. Those under 16 will be taken be to their home address, and follow-up work will be done with parents.
The dispersal order is in force until 17:55 on Monday evening (26th July).
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“We will continue to review this and another dispersal order may be put in place once this one has ended if deemed necessary”.
All 4 men remain in custody at this time.

Surprise, surprise, not holidaymakers after all.
Are these blokes all too stupid to know how to have a good time? Fighting in the street is for dead heads. Are you dead heads??????
This is a great aid for the Police, but why not make a permanent dispersal order the law in the whole UK.
The Police would then have a bit more in their armoury to deal with the who choose to make life very unpleasant and hazardous for the rest of us.
I do not see it as an infringement of Civil Rights, it would be for the common good.
It would also defuse many confrontational incidents without court intervention and resultant costly proceedings. The dispersed persons would avoid a criminal record in the incident, they can then reflect on their anti social behaviour, WIN WIN.
So you would be happy having a laugh with a couple of friends walking down the esplanade for a police officer to tell you to go home or get arrested just because there was an incident that happened there the day before? A dispersal order for the whole weekend is unnecessary let alone permanently.
No Police officer is going to issue a dispersal order if you are walking home with friends and having a laugh, unless that involves anti-social behaviour , violence or damage.
It would ONLY be used against those causing trouble. That’s the whole point of it !!!!!
Police officers do know what and what is not unreasonable or criminal behaviour. They are very professional.
If you and your friends ae law abiding then you have no worries, indeed it will remove yobs who may cause you aggravation. WIN WIN.
Great idea, I will agree with that, -now wait for the moronic comments against such a proposal, from our usual low-life commenters…..
