The paddle steamer Waverley will no longer be making stops at Ryde Pier as the berth has been rendered ‘out of service’ – with Yarmouth Pier also now unavailable.
It has been confirmed that this weekend’s planned stop at Ryde has been cancelled, as have the next 4 timetabled dates in this year’s sailing programme.
Visits to Yarmouth Pier have also been scrapped due to maintenance work required on the pier structure.
The news that both piers are unavailable means Isle of Wight residents can no longer board locally and will have to travel to the mainland instead.
The PS Waverley will continue to operate from Portsmouth and Southampton as planned.
Any passengers who are prebooked from Ryde will be able to transfer to any sailing or be offered a refund, it has been confirmed.
A spokesperson for the company behind the trips has said:
“Waverley Excursions apologise to those passengers who were intending to sail from Ryde.
“We are grateful to the support we have had from Wightlink to enable Waverley to use Ryde pier thus far this season”.

Stopped us booking a trip. The way the IOW ferries are at present it’s was a. Too expensive and b. Too unreliable such a shame
Have she upset Wightlink? She cancelled stop at Ryde Pier couple of weeks ago for ‘operational reasons’, and now cancelled Ryde Pier completely, and Portsmouth Harbour berth as well. Waverley sailing tomorrow from Portsmouth Port instead.
You could be onto something..the excuse given doesn’t add up. Well, they’ve certainly upset their Ryde passengers, when the “free” option of switching to another sailing from the mainland will require paying £25 to…Wightlink. Would strongly advise Islanders to think very carefully before booking Waverley again.
