3 races were staged at the Shanklin Regatta before it was suspended due to deteriorating sea conditions.
Shanklin Rowing Club found themselves high on the aggregate shield with 1st, 2nd and 4th places recorded in the first 2 races.
The Boys Quad of James Travers, Sam Meadowcroft, Isaac King, Fin Diffey and Esme Walters (cox) stormed to victory, winning by over 3 lengths on home water.
Fred Giemza-Pipe and Alex Robertson modelled coastal sculling at its finest with both coping admirably with the challenging conditions, to finish 2nd and 4th, respectively.
Despite the disappointment of the main event being cancelled, an impromptu Beach Sprints mini-regatta quickly took shape with Shanklin out in full force, comprising half of the competitors, followed with wins for both Annabelle Steward, Josh Batchelor and Martha Eggleton.
Newport Junior Men competed, but were swamped by waves coming broadside over the boat, and were forced to retire.
Ryde Regatta

Ryde Regatta saw similar challenging conditions the day after Shanklin Regatta, with just coastal fours being raced.
The Novice Ladies Four – comprising of Anna Visser, Chloe Walker, Hayley Owen, Ruth Faithfull and Jane Denby-Roach (Cox) – did extremely well to complete their first race in tough conditions, finishing a commendable 5th.
Next up was the Masters Ladies crew of Lisa Robertson, Stella Gamble, Lisa Atkin, Jane Denby-Roach and Esme Walters (cox), who navigated through the waves well, coping admirably, to finish 4th in their category.
Last were the Novice Men crew – consisting of Huseyin Yolcu, Tobin Green, Isaac King, Fin Diffey and Esme Walters (cox) – who took a good start to remain in the leading pack for most of the race. Since turning at the buoy turn, and having tough conditions coming back, the crew completed the race in 3rd place, behind crews from Ryde and Southsea Rowing Clubs.
All of the Newport fours were able to complete their races before the regatta was cut short due to weather conditions.
The Newport Women’s and Men’s Novice crews finished 4th. A particularly good result for the men as three seat came off his seat early in the race, which restricted his stroke considerably. The Men’s Masters crew were 4th as well.
The Newport Men’s Junior crew were in contention, until a rival crew impeded them at the buoy turn and finished a commendable 3rd.
