Local charity Daisy Chains IW has announced that it has had to temporarily pause all of its funding for Island families due to a lack of funds, which comes after a ‘busy and tough’ year. Daisy Chains supports the families of children with disability, long-term health needs or life-limiting conditions in many ways, including providing financial support for travel costs to mainland hospitals for treatment and care. However, for the first time in its 11 years of existence, the charity has had to pause all such funding due to the overwhelming number of funding requests received, and a lack of available funds – partially owing to the cancellation of its biggest fundraising event of 2023. The cancellation of Festival of Heroes last year has had a ‘devastating’ impact on the charity’s operations, with those behind the good work saying they have reached a point where they are now unable to offer the usual financial support. In the month of December the charity supported more than 40 families, providing 30 ferry crossings, 4 passenger crossings, £3,900 of food hampers and £1,900 of Christmas Eve treats. Moving forward, the Daisy Chains team will be working extremely hard to host its unusual events such as the Easter Fun Day, Gala Ball and Festival of Heroes, among others. It is hoped that the support of the Isle of Wight community at these events will enable funds to be boosted and grants to resume. A spokesperson for Daisy Chains IW has said:
“We know this will have a huge impact on those we support and we are really sorry. Please do get in touch with us via the usual channels and we will always do what we can to help”. “Thank you all so much for your support and again we apologise for this hopefully short pause in supporting all of the wonderful children we help”.
Reassurances have been given that Daisy Chains will be fully back up and running as soon as possible.

What is the point of this charity? Disabled kids who require treatment on the mainland are supported by the NHS through the Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme. They also receive large amounts of benefits to pay for their food and keep.
what you are seeing is the hard working tax payers of society getting fed up of seeing all these spongers, getting everything free, at their expense and then they get more on top from do gooding charities.
more standing on their own is needed.
You ridiculous person spongers? Parents of premature babies who have to go backwards and for wards to their children in Southampton or Pompey or even further afield because St Mary’s due to cuts cannot give specialist care all the specialist Dc’s went back “home” after the wonderfully successful event Brexit! Parents of disabled children who travel backwards and forwards to Alderhay and beyond , the sets of “go bags” for parents or children who suddenly find themselves in this untenable position.. Social services they are a joke, broken, underfunded like everything else the Torys touch…. Your using yet another name I see but I know who you are and think your real name needs whispering you vile person.
they chose to have the kids – they pay not us
leeches and social services and other handout services simply perpetuate the scrounging
Daisy Chains have been doing a wonderful job at supporting those parents and children who need the extra help the NHS or Council could`nt give.
It has been tough for all the charities over the last few years …so folks instead of moaning about “those Spongers” which they are not. how about putting something in the pot to help the charities that need to continue to support those people who need the extra help. after all they may be a time when you yourself will need the help
no way am i handing money so that people can sit on their backsides without earning it, like I have to.
